Question
A projectile is fired from a table. The initial height of the cannon-ball at launch is 120cm. above the floor, the cannon ball is launched with an initial speed of 5.0 m/s horizontally. Neglect air resistane, take upwards as the positive direction, and use g=9.8 m/s^2
Q1: Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the acceleration vector during flight.
Q2:Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity vector at launch.
Q3:Determine the height of the projectiole when it strikes a target on a wall 120cm to the right of the cannon.
Help please, I didn't get this one right for my midterm, and it is still confusing me.
Explanation / Answer
q1. horizontal component of acceleration =0
vertical component of acceleration = 9.8 -j
q2. horizontal component of velocity = 5i
vertical component of velocity =0
q3. time taken to hit the wall = 1.2/5 = 0.24 s
vertical distance travelled = 1/2 x gt^2 = 1/2 x 9.8 x 0.24^2= 0.28224 m
height of projectile = 1.2-0.28224 =0.91776 m
