Two slits are separated by 0.3mm and are 7m away from a screen. A) if light with wavelength of 650nm is used, how far away from the center is the first dark fringe?B) if the wavelength is decreased, what will happen to the bright and dark fringes? Must explain. B) if the wavelength is decreased, what will happen to the bright and dark fringes? Must explain.
Explanation / Answer
The slits are seperated by a distance of, w=0.3*10-3 m
distance between the slit and the screen, d=7*10-3m
wavelength,lambda=650*10-9 m
S0 the dark fringe is at, y= lambda*d/w=650*10-9*7*10-3/0.3*10-3 =1.5166*10-5m
b) If the wavelength is decreased the the dark fringe and bright fringe will come closer to the center, since the wavelength is deirectly dependent on the distance of the fringes from the center
