Question
58 7. The ability to separate molecules from each other using a selectively permeable membrane is referred to as dialysis. Did the experiment you just finished illustrate this concept? Explain your answer. Activity F 1. Draw a large picture showing one or two representative cells from each slide. Include these labels: Cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasnm Onion in distilled water Onion in 20% saline (e H al cell wa nucleus 2. On which slide is the cell membrane visible? SCIt wotter Add a label for the cell membrane to your drawing. 3. If we took cells from a leaf at the top of the onion plant instead of from the onion bulb, what addition- al organelle would you expect to see in those cells? Why isn't the organelle you listed present in your onion skin sample? 4. What happened to the onion cells that were soaked in the 20% saline solution? Support your answer by mentioning details you observed under the microscope.Explanation / Answer
3 ) stomata
Stomata is present only in green parts of plant where onion bulb is used to store the photosynthetates not to produce
4) plasmolysis
Water from cells moves to the surrounding salt water where the water is in less concentration. The shape of the cells does not change, the cell wall maintains the cell shape. The cell starts to shrivel up. So we see thatothe red pigment increases because it becomes more concentrated as water is removed because red pigment is cannot able to move out of the cell.when distilled water is added the cell atains normal condition again
