Question
a)The following graph shows the voltage and current through a single circuit element. What is the frequency of the ac generator? Vp = 74 V, Ip = 2.10 A, t1=.0402s
I have tried: 351 Hz, .0179 Hz, 60.0 Hz, 126 Hz, 126 rad/s. All were incorrect
b)The circuit element above is either a resistor, an inductor or a capacitor. Use the graph and what you know of circuit elements to determine what type of element is shown the graph. If it is a resistor, what is the value of its resistance? If it is an inductor, what is its inductance? If it is a capactor what is its capacitance?
I believe it is a capacitor due to the current leading, but can't calculate capacitance without the frequency.
Explanation / Answer
a)
There are 2*1/4 wavelength till t1
Time period = t1 / (9/4)
= 0.0402*4/9
= 0.018 s
f = 1/T
= 1/0.018
=56 Hz
Answer: 56 Hz
b)
its capacitor
Xc = Vp/Ip
= 74/2.1
= 35.24 ohm
use:
Xc = 1/(2*pi*f*C)
35.24 = 1/(2*pI*56*C)
C = 8.1*10^-5 F
Answer: 8.1*10^-5 F
