Should scientists be held to some standard of integrity and honesty? Who should enforce this? Why is peer review so important? Science can be pure enquiry but the question it seeks to answer are often those with significant practical import.The reason we subsidise science is because of the benefit it promises. Getting the benefits depends on scientists finding out and telling us the truth. From this point of view, then, honesty is the prime virtue of science and to be virtue is science and to be honest is the stringest duty owed to us all by scientists. Scientific integrity helps to build public support .people are more likely to support the agency is they trust the quality and integrity of its work. Scientific integrity promotes the variety of other important moral and social values such as compliance with law, health and safety.

Advances in science depends on the reliability of the research record. Scientific ethics call for honesty and integrity in all stages of scientific practice, from reporting results regardless of properly attributing collaborators.

A number of incidents have promotes the development of clear and legally enforceable ethical standards in science. Individual scientists enforce ethical standards in the profession promoting open publication, and representation of methods and results that allow for other scientists to produce and validate their work and findings. Ethical standards are critical part of scientific research. Replication, collaboration and peer review all help to minimize ethical beaches and identify them when they do occur.

Society assign scientists a high degree of responsibility and for our lives we expect them to dedicate themselves to the benefit of humanity. Universities and research institutes should have much more proactive role in raising awareness and supporting responsible behavior through explicit declaration. As much as we appreciate the expertise and knowledge of individual scientists they will almost always behave in accordance with the values of societies with which they work.
