Question

A square coil of wire of 1.80cm , consisting of 25 turns and with a total resistance if 0.350 ohm has a magnetic field applied to it perpendicular to the plane of the coil (direction clockwise or counterclockwise) bind the magnitude and direction of the induced current . Name: Cdod Student ID Physics 2092 Quiz #4 Optics March 22, 2016 1. (60) A square coil of wire, with sides of 1.80 cm, consisting of 25 turns an with a total resistance of 0.350 ohms has a magnetic field applied to perpendicular to the plane of the coil. ns and plied to it a. If the field changes uniformly from 0.00 T to 0.500 T in 0.800 s, what is the induced emf in the coil while the field is changing? b. Find the magnitude and direction of the induced current Direction (Clockwise/counterclockwise

Explanation / Answer

Here, induced EMF (voltage) magnitude = N * Change in Flux / Change in Time
Flux = B*A

Your A is 0.018 m * 0.018 m = 0.000324 m^2
Change in flux is from 0.5 T - 0 T = 0.50 T
Change in time is given as 0.8 seconds.
N = 25 turns

(a) So, induced emf, E = (25 turns * 0.50 T*0.000324 m^2) / 0.8 seconds = 0.0050625 V = 5.06 mV.

(b) Magnitude of induced current =  0.0050625 / 0.35 = 14.46 mA.

Of-course the direction of current shall be clock-wise.
