Question
An object 4.5 mm high is on the optical axis of two lenses with focal lengths f_1 = +5.0 cm, f_2 = +10 cm. The object is 6.3 cm to the left of the first lens, and the second lens is 32 cm to the right of the first lens. Find the position (relative to the second lens) and the size of the final image by calculation, position size Find the position (relative to the second lens) and the size of the final image by the graphical method. (Do this on paper. Your instructor may ask you to turn in this work.)Explanation / Answer
1/f = 1/v + 1/u
now, for lens 1
f = 5cm, u = -6.3cm, hence v = 2.767cm
hieght of this image = 4.5*2.767/6.3 = 1.9911 mm
for lens 2
f = 10cm, -u = 32 - 2.767 = 29.233 cm, so v = 7.457 cm
hieght of image = 1.9911*7.457/29.333 = 0.5062 mm
