32-8 Refraction at a Spherical Surface Example 32-13: A spherical "lens." point source of light is placed at a distance of 25.0 cm from the center of a glass sphere of radius 10.0 cm. Find the image of the source I1 Source R = 10.0 cm Copyright© 2009 Pearson Education, Inc.Explanation / Answer
By formula
n1/do + n2/di = (n2 - n1) /R
=> 1/15 + 1.5/di = 0.5/10
=> 1.5/di = 0.5/10 - 1/15
=> di = - 90 cm ---------> first image
Also, 1.5/105 + 1/di = 0.5/10
=> 1/di = 0.05 - 1.5/105
=> di = 28 cm ----------> second image
