Hydrophyllaceae is also known by its common name waterleaf family. The only economic importance of the family is as an ornamental. Further, one of its species is used as a pollinator attractant in agriculture and also as folk medicine. Hydrolea zeylanica (one of its genre), their leaves are edible and have antiseptic and cleansing properties for neglected ulcers. They maintains bioloical balance by providing floral nectar reserves for parasitoids and act as a floral resource which is important for aphid- eating hover flies so that they can lay fertile eggs. Due to these factors, this plant family becomes important to ecosystem in whcih it lives.
