Question
A massive block with a speaker bolted to it is connected to a spring (146N/m) and oscillates back and forth. The speaker and block mass is6kg. The maximum amplitude of the oscillation is 0.5m. Determine the minimum sound level ( in dB) heard by stationary observer sitting in front of the speaker at distance 5 from the equilibrimum position of the speaker, if the speaker emits the sound of frequency 920Hz and power 113W. Take the speed of sound to be 340 m/s and and state your answer to the nearest tenth of dB.
please explain the steps too
Explanation / Answer
Intensity of sound waves at the location of obsorver,
I = Power delivered /Area
= 113/(4*pi*5^2)
= 0.3597 W/m^2
we know, sound intensity level at the location of obsorver,
beta = 10*log(I/Io)
= 10*log(0.3597/10^-12) (here Io = 10^-12 W/m^2 is the threshold intesnity)
= 105.56 dB
I dont think the motion of speaker effects Intensity level. It will effect the frequency heard by the obsorver.
