Question

A wire loop of area 150cm^2 lies on a horizontal table top. An electromagnet produces a magnetic field of .260T directed straight up through the loop. Over a period of .40s, the field is reduced to 0.060T. A) find the magnitude of the induced emf in the loop during the .40s interval. B) CW or CCW? Explanation / Answer

a)

here

the field decrease at the rate of

dB / dt = (0.060 - 0.260 ) / 0.40

dB / dt = -0.5 T /s

the -ve sign show the decreasing rate of the field

then

area = 0.015 m^2

by using the formula

induced emf = N*A *cos(theta ) * dB / dt

induced emf = 1 * 0.015 * cos( 0 degree) * 0.5

induced emf = 0.0075 * 1000 = 7.5 mV

so the induced emf is 7.5 * 10^-3 V
