The figure below is a pressure versus volume graph where the different curves represent different processes done on a gas. Starting at the origin to point 1. the pressure and volume are increased to 2972 Pa and 3.91 m3 respectively. From 1 to 2 the gas expands at constant pressure to a volume of 6.91 m3. From 2 to 3 the pressure rises to 4.000 times 103 Pa. And finally from 3 to 4 the gas expands again to 10.68 m3. Using the ranking module, rank the curves from the most positive to the most negative amount of work done on the gas. What is the total work done on the gas?

W0-1 = 1/2 * base * height = 1/2 * 3.92 * 2972 = 5825.12 J

W1-2 = area of the rectangle = (6.91-3.91)*2972 = 8916 J

W2-3 = 0 as volume is constant

W3-4 = area of rectangle = (10.68-6.91) *4000 = 15080 J

Total work = 29821.12 J
