Question

You find that if you hang a 1.35kg weight from a vertical spring, it stretches 4.15cm. What is the force constant of this spring? (in N/m) and how much mass should you hang from teh spring so it will stretch by 8.39cm from its original unstretched length?

An unstretched spring is 13.0cm long. When you hang an 680g weight from it, it stretches to a lenthg of 15.0cm. What is the force constant (in N/m) of this spring? What total mass must you hang from the spring to stretch it a total lenth of 18.0cm?

Explanation / Answer

I have got the spring constant, 318.75 N/x

Then if the spring stretched by 8.39 cm,

F=k*x
F=318.75 * 0.0839
F= 26.74 N

F here euals to weight

F=W=m*g

26.74 = m*9.8

m=2.72 kg

b)For a spring F=k
