013 (part 1 of 2) A solenoid of length 30 cm and radius 1.4 cm with 500 turns is in an external magnetic field of 400 G that makes an angle of 50 degree with the axis of the solenoid. Find the magnetic flux through the solenoid. Answer in units of mWb 014 (part 2 of 2) Find the magnitude of the end induced in the solenoid if the external magnetic field is reduced to zero in 2s. Answer in units of mV 015 To monitor the breathing of a hospital patient, a thin belt is girded around the patient's chest. The belt is a 200 turn coil. When the patient inhales, the area encircled by the coil increases by 53.5 cm^2. Find the average induced emf in the coil during this time. Assume the magnitude of the Earth's magnetic field is 64.5 MuT and makes an angle 16.4 degree with a line drawn perpendicularly to the plane of the coil. A patient takes 1.78 s to inhale. Answer in units of MuV

Explanation / Answer

13)

flux = phi

phi = N A B cos50

=> phi = N (pi R^2) B cos50

=> phi = 500 * (3.1416*0.014*0.014) * (0.0400) * cos(50)

=> phi = 0.007916 Wb

=> phi = 7.9 mWb

---------------------------------------------------------------

14)

emf = d(phi)/dt = 0.007916/2 = 0.003958 V = 4.0 mV

---------------------------------------------------------------

15)

d(phi) = N dA B cos16.4

=> d(phi) = 200 * (53.5e-4) * (64.5e-6) * cos16.4 = 6.6207e-5 Wb

emf = d(phi)/dt = 6.6207e-5/1.78 = 37.2 uV
