Question

a) what is F? ans. 64.24

b) What is the tension at the top end of rope 1?

(c) What is the tension at the bottom end of rope 1?

d) what is the tension at the top end of rope 2? ans. 5.84

a and d are correct, I got 26.28 for b and 20.44 for c what am i doing wrong.

explain

The figure below shows two 1.8 kg blocks connected by a rope. A second rope hangs beneath the lower block. Both ropes have a mass of 400 g. The entire assembly is accelerated upward at 4.8 m/s2 by force vector F. a) what is F? ans. 64.24 b) What is the tension at the top end of rope 1? (c) What is the tension at the bottom end of rope 1? d) what is the tension at the top end of rope 2? ans. 5.84 a and d are correct, I got 26.28 for b and 20.44 for c what am i doing wrong. explain

Explanation / Answer

Total mass = 2 * 1.8 + 2 * 0.400 = 4.4 kg

Total Weight = 4.4 * 9.8 = 43.12 N

F = m * a

F = 43.12 + (4.4 * 4.8) = 64.24 N

--------------------------------------------

Total mass = 1.8 + 2 * 0.400 = 2.6 kg

Total Weight = 2.6 * 9.8 = 25.48

Tension = (25.48) + (2.6 * 4.8) = 37.96 N

----------------------------------------------

g + a = 9.8 + 4.8 = 14.6m/s2

Total mass = 1.8 + 0.400 = 2.2 kg

T = 2.2 * 14.6 = 32.12 N

------------------------------------------

T = 0.400 * 14.6

= 5.84 N
