Explanation / Answer
Healthcare for Women
Introduction: Healthcare for women has evolved over the year. In the ancient times, women were not given much priority in terms of healthcare. However, there are different reasons that led to the consideration of their health. The improved healthcare system saw many hospitals established that could cater for their needs. Also, many qualified health practitioners were employed to ensure that women do not suffer in any case concerning their healthcare. The government also established different organizations that only catered for the well-being of the women. Apart from that, non-governmental organizations were also established. The paper will discuss some organizations that cater for health of the women. Missions and visions of the women will also be discussed.
Organizations that are committed to Improving Access to Healthcare for Women and Minorities
OMH U.S Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health:
The organization named above is a state agent responsible in ensuring that the needs of the minority. The primary stakeholders in this organization can be referred to as the people who stand directly affected positively or negatively by the actions of an organization. The stakeholders can also be defined as those people who benefit from the governmental organization. Some of these people include the women, children, and other people who are not Americans. The organization is aimed at ensuring that transparency and equity is achieved in the offering of health care services(Betancourt, Green, & Carrillo, 2002). The target audience of the organization is all the citizens of America. However, the agency focuses greatly on the minority groups. An example is pregnant women, physically impaired, and the women from Asian, Hispanic, African, and Europe origin.
The mission statement of the organization is clear and precise. Its aim is to dedicate its services and efforts in improving the health of racial and ethnic minority population through the development of health policies and programs that will help in elimination of health disparities. Health disparities are the differences that are brought about in the offering of health services such as discrimination. The organization is steadfast in the supporting the development and implementation of the provisions of the affordable Care Act (Betancourt, Green,Carrillo & Park, 2005). According to the organization, the act is to address the issues of disparities and equity in offering of healthcare services to the people. Apart from that, the organization is aimed at fighting for the implementation of the (Health and Human Services) HHS Action Plan to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. Lastly, coordinating with the national partnership for action to end health disparities and the national stakeholder strategy for achieving health equity is an activity that the organization practices to decrease the barrier to access of healthcare access to minorities.
The strategies employed by the organization have been effective. The plan has yielded fruits as it has seen the development of health care facilities all over the states which serve the minority. As a result of that, the healthcare facilities have also played a role in reducing the mortality rate in the number of expectant women who are not originally Americans (Scott, et al. 2002). Through the organization, the minorities have been recognized in the society and respected as well.
National Association of State Offices of Minority Health:
The organization is created under the Nevada state legislature. It was after realizing that the rights of the minority in the state were being violated. The main aim was to improve the healthcare of the minority in America. Primary stakeholders in the organization are people in Nevada and especially the minority. The organization has its primary role in ensuring healthcare services reach every citizen without discrimination.
The mission of the organization is to improve the quality of healthcare services for the minority groups in the society. It also aims at increasing the access to healthcare services by building more hospitals and healthcare centers. Apart from that, it is also the mission of the organization to provide education to the people on how to address and prevent some diseases. The entity also aims at also providing the better living conditions to the minority groups. The organization has several programs that have played a major role in decreasing the barriers to healthcare access to minority.
Equity of Care Organization
Equity of Care is a non-governmental organization that is aimed at improving healthcare in the community. The organization is formed by leaders of healthcare organizations who have come together to create a national call aimed at eliminating healthcare disparities. It is also aimed at improving the quality of care to every patient. The primary stakeholders include women, children, physically challenged, and the citizens of America at large. Some of the organizations which have come together to form the group include America’s Essential Hospitals, American Hospital Association, and American College of Healthcare executives among others.
The mission of the organization is to increase the collection and use of race, ethnicity, and language preference data in various regions in America. It also aims at increasing cultural competency training which is to help in the reduction of ethnicity and racism (Carter-Pokras,&Baquet, 2002). Lastly, the organization is aimed at increasing diversity in leadership and governance. The missions of the organization are incorporated in programs which have activities aimed at reducing the barriers o access to healthcare access for women and minorities(Betancourt, Green, & Carrillo, 2002). The activities include education, provision of health facilities, and increase of health practitioners. Most of these activities have proved to work to help in reduction of the barriers.
Strategies Employed by the Three Organizations:
The efforts put in place by these organizations can be seen in the strategies used in eradicating the barriers to the access healthcare services. So far, many health centers have been established in the US to help in ensuring that the rights of the minority are catered for. Education offered in different centers about cultural diversity has also played a role in ensuring that racism, ethnicity, and other types of discriminations have reduced(Betancourt, Green,Carrillo & Park, 2005). The programs have also seen women attended to and thus reducing the mortality rate. The strategies have helped in improving healthcare services in the US.
Targeted Audience in an Intervention to Address Barriers to Healthcare:
If I was to design an intervention to address barriers to healthcare, the targeted audience would be the youth. Youth form the largest percentage of populations in many nations. The voice of the youths can also be listened to by the society. The people in this age bracket can also influence change. Addressing the issues to them will ensure that they bring a positive change to the healthcare system. The youths will become leaders in the future and will therefore be at a better position to implement the programs to address barriers to healthcare.
Strategies to include in the Intervention:
The main strategy to include is education of the people on cultural diversity. With that, it will be able to change the perspectives of many towards their relationship with people who are not of their origin (Betancourt, Green, & Carrillo, 2002). It will help them embrace different cultures. Putting all this into consideration, it can be very easy to eradicate racism, ethnicity and other types of discriminations in the society.
Conclusion:
Different organizations in the US have come together to help in the fight of the discrimination in the society. Such organizations have helped in bringing change as well as introducing new mechanisms to deal with healthcare issues. Access to healthcare to women and the minority can be achieved through togetherness and embracing of different cultures.
