San Francisco became the first city to pass a local law which requires large retailers, including Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, etc., to report antibiotics used by their meat and poultry suppliers. According a number of researches, abuse of antibiotics will result in antibiotics-resistant infection and other health concerns. Governors hope this local law will educate customers and eliminate unnecessary use of antibiotics. On the other hand, opponents believe retailers are not responsible for the information gathering.

San Francisco law makers have voted unanimously for this new law to report the use of antibiotics on meat and poultry supplies. For this law, the retailers need to collect annual data about the antibiotic usage from the suppliers. There should be enough back up evidence for the information stated. This law came into existence because of the D-grade certification to many meat and poultry selling outlets because of the poor quality of the meat products.

1) The antibiotics are used in during the breeding of animals for their infection free growth stock thus to increase the life of the livestock. Hence, it becomes easy for the suppliers to tell about the amount of Antibiotic usage and their policies. Whereas retailers should have the backup data to support the evidence of Antibiotic administration.

Ploicy can curb down the rate of Antibiotic injected meat and poultry products

Way to control the antibiotic resistance because on a longer run consumption of Antibiotic injected meat products can be harmful in terms of resistance

Disadvantages-

Cost involved to maintain back up datas which can hike meat price.

It may not be uniformly followed as this law applies for retailers with more than 25 outlets
