Question

So, in my A.P. Macroeconomics class we have to build a "city" out of legos. My group has built it. We have to also explain how and why we decided to build the city the way we did, as well as all the expenses. Check. My job is the site planner. As a site planner, I am responsible to present why I chose to put the "lego" pieces (buildings) where they are. I have my mission statement as "Our city is a city that is combined into an advocate for simplicity as well as a city that preserves its historic elements. It is a simple town that is ideal for living, work and play." Now, I have 2 minutes to explain the project to the board (aka City Council). I don't know what to cover and what to talk about (Besides the items included in my RFP and packet. I need to be precise about the project and show that I am very knowledgeable of most of the information although I had missed a few days and don't know as much as I am supposed to.) All I need is to know what I am supposed to talk about besides the layout of the city and if not too much, what are the hardest questions you could think of that you would ask me?

Explanation / Answer

Since this is a macro class I would ask you questions such as, what is the unemployment rate of your city and if it is high what can you do to reduce the unemployment. Your answer would be, I would reduce the unemployment by increasing the interest rate. This would cause more firms to invest and more jobs to be created. This in turn would shift the suply curve (for labor) to the right and the wage should stay the same. What is the main focus of your city? is it a fishing community where you will need to determine the specific quantity to deplets natural resources, or is it a city with factories will you need to consider the negative externality exhausted on the citizens and need to to determine how much the city should charge the firm. In this case, the externality revenue can be redistributed to the city through education, discounts on taxes, or building playgrounds. Hope this gives you a good starting point and some topics to talk about. Think macro, GDP, Inflation, unemplyment, exchange rates.....
