Title: Nurses Turnover - Boon or Bane

Introduction:

Nurses are the backbone of any healthcare system, who work for patient care tirelessly and many a times at the stake of putting their own needs at backfoot. There was times where there was less opputunities for potential growth of nurses as well as less burden of patient care. With the advent of new technology and growing diseases; the burden on the healthcare system as well as on the healthcare providers have increased, as a result of which they are themselves suffering from various physical and mental health issues. Alongwith the adverse working conditions including the lack of proper facilities and allowances, the growth in the number of speciality fields and opputunities for proffessional growth might have significantly influenced the increasing trend towards the nursing turnover rates.

It is the basic tendency of an human being to seek higher aspirations and present day trained and specialized nurses are not willing to compromise with the quality of patient care as well as the quality of professional life. Thus they choose to grab a better oppurtunity than to compromise in the present setting of work, resulting in increased rate of turnover.

But the turnover of nurses impacts not only the employing agency but also the patient care, which may be compromised due to the time needed for the recruitment of new nurses and also the time taken by them to get accustomed to work in a particular area of expertise. With the Issue cathing up several eyes and many studies going on in the area, there are several questions which needs to be answered:

Conclusion:

Though many researches are being conducted in the area, there are many methodological limitations of the studies and potential areas of how the problem can be rectified and measures to contain the problem atill needs to be studied in depth to take adequate rectifying measures and ensures both nurses and patient safety and satisfaction.
