The critical design specification for the manufacture of a component is the length of the component. The current specifications are 15 ± 0.05 cms. The organization currently employs a manufacturing process with the process centre at 14.98 and a standard deviation of 0.02. (a) What is the process capability of the process? (b) Are its potential capability and the actual capability the same? ANSWERS: (a) 0.12; (b) Potential Capability (Cp) = 0.833, Actual Capability (Cpk) 0.50; They are not the same as the process is not aligned with the target QUESTION IS: A only. How is it 0.12Explanation / Answer
Answer for A)
Process Capabilty as per the definition is the spread of process, If the standard deviation of process is sigma then process capability is 6*sigma. It merely tells us that process can produce goods witihn +/- 3*sigma
Here sigma =0.02
Therefore Process Capability is =0.02*6
