Question

Evaluate the two different democratic models used in the U.S and the EU, respectively, by seeing the strengths and weaknesses in the system, what can be considered as the most democratic, most effective, etc. Explain your conclusions?

From an analytical standpoint: What would the consequences be if we replaced the proportional voting system we use today with a majority voting system?

What are the consequences of these different democratic models when used: Direct and representative democracy, majority elections / proportional elections, etc.? What benefits are there with these models, and why?

Explanation / Answer

The European Union(EU) and the United States(US) are two completely different models. Where Campaigning, electing cabinet members are two totally different Democratic models.

In the United States there are 100 senators, two per state and senators are elected by the people of the States. Where as cabinet members are not democratically elected, which is different in the Europe. In the European Union(EU) it has representatives from all the member nations and thus it is considered as supranational organization. EU is an original form of organization of political power which shares its important features with nation States.

The political powers reserved for the United States governments according to the Constitution are STATES RIGHTS. The president doesn't depend on the congress confidence and the president basically enjoy extensive powers in policy making and appointing members in his administration. Where as European Union doesn't substitute for the nations states of the member countries since these have been simultaneously strengthened and weakened by European integration.

In my opinion democracy is public's system where the government organize things according to public's preferences. I basically like European Union(EU) system because there is more freedom for the people and they can directly fight with the government itself if the people are not happy with them.
