There are many pitfalls that come along with the public misinterpreting an organization's message. When that happens, it can cause irreparable damage to the organization as a team, conference, league, and/or athlete scramble to do do damage control. Many times, the damage can be irreversible, even if the information (or interpretation) is incorrect.
For this bonus assignment, I want you to search for three examples of situations in the sport industry where a message was either miscommunicated to the public or the public interpreted it differently than it was intended. These examples can deal with teams/organizations, athletes, leagues/conferences, sponsors, owners, etc. You will need to provide me a brief summary of each issue (2-3 paragraphs for each situation) and properly cite references where you pulled the information from. These summaries should be in your own words, not just copied and pasted from the source you use. I would then like you to write 1-3 paragraphs from a management perspective (for each scenario) that describes how you would have approached the situation differently. What would you have done to avoid that situation? Could it have been avoided? What are some proactive steps you would take to improve future communication efforts? Sexual harassment in workplace includes:
- asking sexual favours from peers and subordinates
- passing unnecessary sexual comments
- touching inappropriately
- cracking sexual and adult jokes
Organisations legal and ethical obligation towards sexual harassment:
1. Safe environment: It is an organisation's core responsibility to provide safe environment, to work, for all employees
2. Discrimination: Ethical and legal obligations talks about not discriminating any employee in the organisation. Hence sexually harassing them would be a crime
3. Code of conduct: Every organisation has a set of ethical and moral behaviours which are expected out of their employees. Disturbing employees peace of mind by behaving inappropriately would be against any organisations policy
Steps an organisation can take to lessen the misconduct:
1. Anti sexual harassment policy: Sort out a organisation policy abiding the law related to sexual harassment.
2. Communication and training: Employees may unknowingly do certain activities in the organisation. Hence communicating to them on what is sexual harassment and what are the inappropriate behaviours is a must.
3. Penalities: To come up with punishments and penalties for employees who wantedly indulge in such activities
4.Team: To set a grievance handling team who can Investigate on sexual harassment cases and come up with solutions for the same
What an organisation should do when there is a complaint:
- the organisation should first of all set a meeting between the affected parties and try to understand the background
- the investigating team has to clearly have knowledge on what are the sexual harassment activities
- take help from legal department on the same
- identify if the issue has actually taking place or not
- if proven guilty terminate the employee or act according to the law
Firms strategy implementation of strategy and its performance:
Brand building: When a firm strategies to protect its employees interest in the organisation then it would considered to be the best brand to work for
Employees Morale and motivation increases when they have a safe environment
This in turn increases the productivity of the organisation
