lease use complete sentences in your response and clearly indicate which part of the question you are answering.
-----
(a) Describe two different ways to figure out your latitude by observing the sky. Your description needs to include what you would observe and also how that "observable" quantity is related to the latitude.
(b) Describe how having an accurate watch should allow you to figure out your longitude with one observation of the sky. Include what you observe and how that is related to the longitude.
Explanation / Answer
1. Latitude : - You can measure your latitude using either the Sun or the stars. To find your latitude using the stars, you only need to find the North Star, called Polaris, If you measure the angle of the North Star above the horizon, that will be the same as your latitude. During the day, you can only measure your latitude by considering the position of the Sun at exactly noon
Longitude :- Going right around the earth, from east to west for example, there are 360 degrees of longitude. So, here's another way of putting it: in one hour, the earth turns through 15 degrees of longitude and there by from the length of shadow we can know the elapsed time and hence this can be found out.
