Explanation / Answer

The two strategy used in the essay blaxican and other reinvented Americans by Richard Rodgruez are +

1. Example

As an example, Rodriguez points out that the term “Hispanic” describes a culture not a race, and that while there may be some tension between Black and Latino races, calling it a “war between blacks and Hispanics” is not valid because black is a race and Hispanic is a culture. Using his own personal experiences, he points out that our standards of multiculturalism based on Canada’s standards meaning we want things to be separate but equal. Which means, that English would still be our main language, however, in the future we might add add Spanish or Chinese as a second language in order to placate whatever surge of immigration may be present at the time. Rodriguez disagrees with this method and instead suggests that there is no border to the US anymore, that cultural assimilation is happening whether we like it or not, and that we cannot keep our culture separate from other countries any longer.

2. Negation

In the Article “Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans” Richard Rodriguez starts his argument by pointing out that a flood of immigrants is taking over America, and that the standards for dealing with immigrants do not encompass the variety of different races that are entering our borders today. Rodriguez talks about how Americans have always “divided the conversation into a black-and-white conversation”, he spends a large portion of his article pointing out that racial variety is not a new concept in this country and, furthermore, that racial variety does not have to be seen as a negative thing. Rodriguez also points out that it was Richard Nixon who was responsible for classifying all races into the limited number of categories we know today, his claim is that the categories created by Nixon only exist in this country and don’t accurately depict all the separate races/cultures they attempt to encompass.
