Question
Explanation / Answer
Question 1
pH is the potent of hydrogen
It given by pH = -log [H+]
i) for pH = 4.75
Solution is acidic , as pH scale is defined from 0 to 14 where pH from <7 is acidic , 7 is neutral and pH >7 is basic.
HENCE pH = 4.75 is an acidic solution
ii) pH = 4.75
-log[H+] =4.75
[H+] = antilog (-4.75) = 1.778 * 10-5
iii) pH +pOH =14, SO we have pOH = 14 -pH =14 - 4.75 = 9.25
SO we have -log[OH-] =9.25 . So [OH-] = antilog ( -9.25) = 5.624 * 10-10
iv) for buffer solution , pH does not change for small addition of water , acids , bases . So pH does not change. pH will remain same.
