How many grams of potassium chlorate, KCIO_3, decompose to form potassium chloride and 250. mL of O_2, at 400 K and 0.850 atm? Molar Mass (KCIO_3) = 122.55 g/mol 2KCIO_3 (s) rightarrow 2 KCI(s) + 3 O_2(g) a. 0.00647 g O_2 b. 0.529 g O_2 c. 0.793 g O_2 d. 1.19 g O_2 e. 4.76 g O_2 Consider a mixture of gases that includes 0.50 g of He, 5.0 g of Ne and 20 g of Ar contained in a 5.0 L vessel at 25 Delta C to answer the following question(s). Molar Mass(He) = 4.0 g/mol, Molar Mass(Ne) = 20 g/mol, and Molar Mass(Ar) = 40 g/mol Refer to Exhibit 6-1. What is the mole fraction of Ne in this mixture? a. 0.14 b. 0.20 c. 0.25 d. 0.28 e. 0.57 Consider a mixture of gases consisting of 0.538 moles of He, 0.315 moles of Ne and 0.103 moles of Ar confined in a 7.00 L vessel at 25 degree C. What is the partial pressuire of the He gas. a. 0.151 atm b. 0.158 atm c. 0.180 atm d. 1.88 atm e. 5.94 atm

Explanation / Answer

first find the moles of O2 using PV = nRT formula

where P = pressure = 0.85 atm

V = volume = 250 mL - 0.25 L

n = moles we have to calculate

R = gas constant = 0.0821 L atm , mol K

T = temperature in K = 400 K

plug in all these in above equation

0.85 atm x 0.25 L = n x 0.0821 L atm mol-1 K-1 x 400 K

n = 0.2125 L atm / 32.84 L atm mol-1

n = 0.00647 mol.
