Question

I must answer these questions. I'm having a hard time pulling out the information from the article.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
1. What specific goal or goals does the research intend to achieve? What is the hypothesis? 2. Why are they doing this? What’s the context or value of the research? 3. What techniques are they using in order to carry out the research? 4. Were the reported results consistent with or verify the hypothesis? Did the research achieve the desired goal? 5. Did the paper effectively communicate what the researchers wanted to report?

Explanation / Answer

Ans: To develop efficient novel covalent probes for the radiolabeling of the Cannabinoid Receptor based which may be useful to identify the active binding sites of the receptor and further its agonists and antagonists.

2. Why are they doing this? What’s the context or value of the research?

Ans: They are doing this to develop novel drug candidates for the treatment of cannabinoid receptor associated diseases. It opens the door for a series of radiolabeling experiments that can greatly assist in identifying the binding site of cannabinoid ligands within this receptor.

3. What techniques are they using in order to carry out the research?

Ans: They have utilized a novel and diastereoselective Intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction as a chemical tool to synthesize the designed structure of the probe. This has been further radiolabeled using radioactive iodine to study the interactions with the receptor. All the synthesized probes were well characterized using 1H and 13C NMR experiments and HRMS analysis.

4. Were the reported results consistent with or verify the hypothesis? Did the research achieve the desired goal?

Ans: Yes. The results all are consistent with the hypothesis and matched with the literature reports.

5. Did the paper effectively communicate what the researchers wanted to report?

Ans: Yes. Additionally, more control experiments and other studies needs to be done to further prove their hypothesis and develop the structurally related new chemical probes.
