Question

Hi, could you please solve question #7?

Thanks!

6. A certain amount of solvent A' will dissolve 32 grams of acetaminophen (Tylenol) at room temperature and 35 grams at 100°C. The same amount of 'solvent B' will dissolve 1.2 grams of acetaminophen at room temperature and 35 grams at 100°C. Which one of these two solvents will be suitable for the recrystallization of acetaminophen?_ Explain your reasoning. 7. Aliterof boiling water will dissolve 97.5 grams of a certain compound. At room temperature, only 2.3 grams of the compound will dissolve in a liter of water. When a student dissolves 65.8 grams of the compound in a liter of boiling water and lets it cool to room temperature, what will be the mass (grams) of the crystals that form? Show your calculation.

Explanation / Answer

[7]

The capability of super saturation level of boiled water of the given compound is 97.5 gms.

Now since only 65,8gms is added the water is not saturated at boiling temperature.

Next as we cool down this solution to room temperature only 2.3 gms of compound can remain dissolved and the rest will be precipitated in crystal form,

so the total weight of crystal is 65.8-2.3 gms= 63.5gms... (Answer)

Hope this Helps!!
