Number of theoritical plates, N = 20

HEPT = L/N = 100 m / 20 = 5 m (answer)

(c): Given the length of column, L = 100 m

Number of theoritical plates, N = 10

HEPT = L/N = 100 m / 10 = 10 m (answer)

(d): More the number of theoritical plates(N) smaller is the value of HETP and higher is the separation. Hence the chromatography in part-(b) has better separation.

(a): alpha-beta unsaturated acid/ketone/ester/amine etc. compounds are easily detected by UV light during TLC. analysis. Hence compound that can be visualized are compound 11 and 12
