9. Balance the following chemical equations. 10 points 9.1 Fe + Cl2 FeCl3 9.2 GH, + o2 co2 + H2O + heat 9.3 AI + 02 Al2O3 10. Sodium carbonate (Na CO) is reacted with concentrated hydrochloric acid at 37.0°C and 1.00 atm. The reaction of 10.6 g of sodium carbonate with excess hydrochloric acid under these conditions will produce what volume of the CO2 gas? A FE Evaluate each of the following as T (rue) or F (alse)-30 Points 1. If 1.0 mol He and 1.0 mol CHa gases are placed in the same balloon, CHs will exert more pressure because it has more atoms in its molecule: 2. A solution of table salt (NaCl) in water (H:O) is a mixture of two elements 3. Isotopes of an element have the same mass but different number of protons; 4. A 0.15 mole of water will weigh 0.15 grams 5. In the periodic table of elements, the elements with similar chemical properties are found in the same period: 6. The protons and neutron of an atom are found in its highest occupied energy level;

Explanation / Answer

9)

2Fe + 3Cl2 -----> 2FeCl3

C2H6 + 7/2O2 -----> 2CO2 + 3H2O

The heat doesnt matter.

2Al + 3/2O2 ---> Al2O3

10) I have already answered this parts, but i repost to be sure.

Na2CO3 + 2HCl --------> CO2 + 2NaCl + H2O

mol Na2CO3= 10.6g/106g/mol= 0.1mol

Looking at the equation we can say that 1 mol of Na2CO3 produces 1 mol of CO2, so, 0.1mol of Na2CO3 produces 0.1mol of CO2.

PV=nRT

V= 0.1mol x 0.082L.atm/mol.K x 310K/1atm = 2.542L

Part B:

1) the pressure is not related with the amount of atoms of the molecule. It is related with the amount of the entire molecule. So, this is false.

2) This is false, H2O and NaCl are not elements, are compounds.

3) Isotopes has the same amount of protons, they differ in the amount of neutrons, so this is false.

4) mass= mole x MW = 0.15mol x 18g/mol = 2.7g. So, this is false.

5) False, they are found in groups! (the columns in the table)

6) False! neutron and protons are found in the nucleus .
