Question

7 In Drosophilia. S-normal. s-sable body: W -normal, w miniature wing. I n a cross between a heterozygous normal fly (heterozygous for both traits) and a sable-bodied, miniature-winged fly, the results were 90 normal flies, 90 with a sable body and miniature wings, 11 with a normal body and miniature wings, and 11 with a sable body and normal wings. Show your work (5) What inheritance pattern explains these results? Why is the explanation for the small number of I1 insects with normal body and miniature wings, and a sable body with normal wings?

Explanation / Answer

8. In Guinea pig, Gene for hair has two allele suppose A for straight hair dominant allele and a for curly hair recessive allele. Bowleggedness is denoted by gene B but it occur only in heterozygous condition because homozygous is dominant lethal gene.

Here, curly hair = aa

straight hair = AA

bowleggedness = Bb

aaBb X AaBb

aB ab aB ab

AB AaBB AaBb AaBB AaBb

aB aaBB aaBb aaBB aaBb

Ab AaBb Aabb AaBb Aabb

ab aaBb aabb aaBb aabb

Among 16 progeny 4 are dominant lethal so total progeny will be 16-4 = 12 (mentioned in bold)

Among 12 progeny 2 progeny is normal with curly hair aabb genotype

= 2/12 = 1/6 progeny with curly hair and normal.
