Question
Suppose you found the gel analysis results below. The letter at the top of each column is the abbreviation for the longer name written at the bottom right. If these were your results, what error likely occurred in your experiment?
A) the positive control was contaminated, producing an incorrect result/
B) the gel was not run long enough for the samples to migrate from the wells
C) The gel was run too long. some ladder and PCR fragments ran off the gel
D) more than one sample was loaded into the ladder well causing multiple bands
LDPN- Ladder DNA Positive control Negative controlExplanation / Answer
Option C is correct. Here not any kind of band is observed. it means the gel was run too long. Some ladder and PCR fragments ran off the gel. In the case positive control is contaminated there must be some band observed for contaminants. In the case gel was not run long enough for the samples to migrate from the wells, also the ladder should not show different bands. In the case more than one sample loaded in ladder, the different bands for different samples should be present in between the ladder band and infront of the sample band in sample line.
