Question

We were careful when neutralizing the solution after the Fischer esterification reaction - we poured it into a beaker and let it cool before starting the neutralization process. Why did we do these things?
Explain why we did each of the following: 10 pt each We were careful when neutralizing the solution after the Fischer esterification reaction- we poured it into a beaker and let it cool before starting the neutralization process. Why did we do these things? a. oc b. You kept the distillate cold in the Diels-Alder reaction. Show exactly (with structure(s), reaction(s), potential energy diagram) why this was done.

Explanation / Answer

a) Fischer esterification carried out in the presence of Acid (Acid catalysed reaction). After completion of the reaction it is poured in the beaker. The beaker cooled to 00C and neutralised with the Base.

The acid and the base reaction is the Exothermic reaction and Heat generates. Hence we have to Cool the beaker.

b)

In the Diels alder reaction the distilate kept in the cold because the reaction may revert.
