Johnny had 50.0 mL sample of 0.4360 M NH_4NO_3 that he diluted with water to a total volume of 250.0 mL. He has to figure out what is the ammonium nitrate concentration in the resulting solution? What equation is used? And what 2 pieces of glassware are used - explain what for Johnny has to make the 0.1510 M NaOH solution needed for his lab. If he uses a 100.00 mL volumetric flask, how many grams of NaOH does he need Explain how you would make this solution (so you will need to know grams of NaOH)Explanation / Answer
1) concentration of any compounds = millimoles / total volume
concentration of NH4NO3 = millimoles / total volume
= 0.4360 x 50 / (250 +50)
= 0.0727 M
NH4NO3 concentratiom = 0.0727 M
2)
NaOH molar mass = 40 g/mol
molarity of NaOH = 0.1510 M
volume of solution = 100 mL = 0.1 L
moles = molarity x volume = 0.1510 x 0.1 = 0.0152
moles = mass / molar mass
mass = moles x molar mas = 0.0151 x 40 = 0.604 g
NaOH needed = 0.604 g
