Question
Type your answers and spell check them. Please make sure they make sense and do NOT assume I know what you are talking about. Be explicit and concise. Answers are due on Monday, June 26^th. You look into a light microscope at a cell of unknown origin. What descriptive traits would you look for to distinguish if the cell is prokaryotic or eukaryotic? What traits would be similar to both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells? DNA controls the cell by transmitting genetic messages that result in protein production. Place the following organelles and molecules in the order that represent the flow of genetic information from the DNA to the generation of a protein that is destined to be secreted out of the cell and please give a brief description of the function of each organelle or molecule. DNA, RNA, nuclear pores, plasma membrane, rough ER. nucleus, ribosomes. trans side of golgi complex, cis side of golgi complex, smooth ER, golgi vesicles. Also, include what happens in each organelle and describe and name the process that excretes the protein from the cell.Explanation / Answer
According to the Chegg guidelines I'll answer the first question when more than one question is posted.
If you are using a light microscope thenyoi can maximum view cell walls, vacuoles, cytoplasm, chloroplasts, nucleus and cell membrane depending upon either cell is eukaryotic or prokaryotic. Light microscopes use lenses and light to magnify cell parts. But they usually can achieve a maximum of 2000x magnification that is not sufficient to see many other small organelles. For example, one cannot see the other organelles like ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, golgi bodies unless they have an electron microscope.
One can see if the cell has nucleus and vacuoles to confirm it as a eukaryotic cell. If not present it is a prokaryotic cell. Prokaryotic cells are usually in clusters having shape of rods and chains.
But there are many similarities in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
1) both contain cell wall. Plant as eukaryotic cell contain cell wall
2) both contain genetic material
3) both have plasma membrane
4) both have cytosol
5) both have ribosomes.
