Explanation / Answer

Answer 1:

Most apical stratum of the epidermis - Stratum corneum.

Visceral stratum of the epidermis - Stratum basale.

Layer absent in thin skin - Stratum lucidum.

Answer 2:

Reason for thick skin - because it is adapted for excessive wear and tear and activities like gripping that may also cause abrasions. So to withstand these, the skin at the palms, fingertips and soles is thick and void of hair.

Answer 3:

Most abundant cell in the epidermis - Keratinocytes

Other cells located in the epidermis - Langerhans cells (also called as epidermal dendritic cells) in the stratum corneum), Merkel cells (also called as tactile cells) and melanocytes, both, in stratum basale.

Answer 4:

Long does it take a keratinocyte produced in the stratum germinativum to be sloughed off the surface of the epidermis - 35 - 40 Days
