Question

Read an source for a discussion of volume and mass measurements and the use of a What are five criteria for a primary standard substance? In very pwe form Reasonably Stable Stable in the pure form and in solution nonhygroscopic and easily dried A compound with molecular mass above 100 The exact concentration of a dilute HCl solution is determined by reaction with a primary standard. Why can't we just dilute the concentrated reagent carefully and calculate the concentration of the dilute solution?

Explanation / Answer

Solution :-

The concentration of the standard solution is important to determine the concnetration of the unknown solution.

If the stock solution is kept for long time then it is possible that some of the water form the solution gets evaporated therefore this will changes the concentration of the standard solution. This will cause in the increase in the concentration of the standard solution. But if we just used this solution to make the dilute solutions by dilution method then it will result in the incorrect concentration of the unknown solution after the titration is over.

Also some chemicals decomposes in the due course of time threfore the standard solution concnetration can changes therefore we cannot directly use the stock solution to make the dilute solutions.

So the exact concetration of the concnetrated solution may be vary by some extent which can give dilute solutions (nstandard solution) with incorrect concentration.

Therefore to avoid such experimental errors it is important that the stadrd solution is must be freshly prepared with known concentration so that we can use it to determine the concentration of the unknown solution.
