Question 28 2 pts The boiling point of water at sea level is 100 Degree C, on the summit of Mt. Everest, it is 71 Degree C. This is because... The atmospheric pressure is lower at high altitudes so liquids require less energy to boil. The atmospheric pressure is higher at high altitudes so liquids require more energy to boil. The atmospheric pressure is lower at high altitudes so liquids require more energy to boil. The atmospheric pressure is lower at sea level so liquids are able to reach higher temperatures when boiling. Question 29 When spotting your TLC plates, make sure and hold the capillary tip on the baseline of the TLC plate for at least 10 seconds. True False

Explanation / Answer

Answer 28

The atmospheric prassure varies inversly with height. As height is increasing the atmospheric prassure decreases . Boiling point is defined as " The temprature at which internal vapor prassure becomes equal to the external atmospheric prassure." As the atmospheric prassure at altitude is lower therefore internal vapor prassure becomes equal to the atmospheric prassure early as compare to the normal situation. Therefore less amount of enrgy is required to boil any liquid at altitude.

option 1 is correct ( The atmospheric pressure is lower at high altidtude so liquid are required less energy to boil.
