Question
We did a virtual simmulation lab on the computers in the class but i didn't understand exactly what we were doing or how exactly it worked and she assigned a free response that she said was related to the topic but i'm completely lost when it comes to chemicals and pH. Help please? This is the question.a.) How do temperature and pH affect the activity of an enzyme? In your answer, include a discussion of the relationship between the structure and the function of this enzyme, as well as a discussion of how structure and function of enzymes are affected by temperature and pH.
b.) Describe a controlled experiment that could have produced the data shown for either temperature or pH. Be sure to state a hypothesis that was tested here.
Explanation / Answer
Enzymes have an optimal temperature and pH at which they work. At higher temperatures the denature (change shape) and will no longer perform the same task. The same goes for pH out of the zone preferred by the enzyme. For the experiment just test activity vs temperature.
