GENETICS MAJORS ONLY PLEASE!! What is the most likely mode ofinheritance of this trait autosomal orx-linked? Give and explain two reasons to support your answer, referring to a specific mark example in the pedigree to defend each statement. What is the most likely ofinheritance of th trait: dominant or recessive mode Give reasons to support your answer, referring to specific examples in the mar pedigree Providing a legend for your symbols, identify the genotype of I-4 and (2 m

Explanation / Answer

a. The trait is most likely autosomal recessive. This is evident by the fact that in some cases where the female offspring has the trait, both parents are carriers for the trait. If it were X-linked, the trait would be present in the father of the female offspring affected by the trait, as the father only contains one copy of the X chromosome, which would display the trait if it is present on it. This is further evident by the fact that the cross between an affected female and a normal male yields all normal male offsprings (third generation, members 7 and 8).

b. The mode of inheritance of this trait is recessive. This is against evident from the cross between the 7th and 8th members of the third generation as the cross between an affected and an unaffected member yield all unaffected (carrier) offsprings.

c. Hollow circle: Affected female

Hollow square: Affected male

Solid circle: Normal or carrier female

Solid square: Normal or carrier male

I-4: Heterozygous

II-3: Homozygous
