This question relates to thermodynamics.

I have asked this question already today, however I did not understand they reply when thay answered the question.

My question is as follows.

When calculating the evaporation rate of water at atmospheric pressure 101.42 kPa. Do I use the value for Ufg or Hfg? I am having trouble understanding when to use Ufg compared to Hfg. Could you pleaseclarify this for me.

Explanation / Answer

Enthalpy refers to the sum of internal energy and the product of its pressure volume that is the work done on it to change its state (pressure and volume). since evaporation involves both the change in internal energy and change of state you should use the values enthalpy (Hfg).
