Explanation / Answer

Given reaction:

2 [Co(H2O)6]2+ + 10NH3 -----> 2[Co(NH3)5(H2O)]2++10H2O

2 [Co(NH3)5(H2O)]2+ + H2O2 ---> 2[Co(NH3)5(OH)]2++2 H2O

2 [Co(NH3)5(OH)]2+ +6Cl- ---> 2[Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2(s) +2 OH-

Summing all the reaction to get overall reaction:

2 [Co(H2O)6]2+ + 10NH3 + 2 [Co(NH3)5(H2O)]2+ + H2O2 + 2 [Co(NH3)5(OH)]2+ +6Cl-   ----> 2[Co(NH3)5(H2O)]2++10H2O + 2[Co(NH3)5(OH)]2++2 H2O + 2[Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2(s) +2 OH

Cancelling commong compounds on both the sides, we get the overall reaction.
2 [Co(H2O)6]2+ + 10NH3 + H2O2 + 6Cl- ----> 2[Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2(s) +2 OH- + 12 H2O

Now Equivalents of Cobalt (II) Chloride Hexahydrate = Equivanents of Aquapentaammine Cobalt (II) = Equivalents of pentamminechloro Cobalt (III) = 0.0211 moles ( nfactor here is 1)

Weight of Pentamminechloro Cobalt (III) = 0.0211* Mw of pentamminechloro Cobalt (III) = 0.0211*250.44 = 5.284 gm
Theoretical yield will be 5.284 gm

Now weight of recovered product, filter paper and watch glass = 35.54 gm
Weight of filter paper and watch glass = 35.34 gm

Weight of recovered product = weight of recovered product, filter paper and watch glass - Weight of filter paper and watch glass = 35.54 - 35.34 = 0.20 gm

Percentage yield = 100* 0.20/5.284 = 3.78%
