Explanation / Answer

Energy:

Complex organic molecules present in food such as sugars, fats, and proteins are sources of energy for cells. The energy in these molecules is stored within the chemical bonds present in these molecules. Energy is released from these molecules through oxidation reactions in which electrons are transferred from one molecule to another. Food molecules possessing high energy act as electron donors. During oxidation, the electrons are accepted by low energy molecules and energy is released. The energy thus released is stored in small energy rich molecules such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). These molecules provide energy required for the metabolic needs and for constructing new cellular components.

Information:

Cells contain DNA in their chromosome. DNA is made primarily of 4 different nucleotide bases which are present in a sequence. DNA is inherited from mother and father. DNA sequence store the information required to build the organism. The information in sequence is arranged in particular DNA segments called genes. Humans possess around 25,000 genes. These genes code for a protein which carry out a specific function. The genes occur in different forms called alleles. Each person has two alleles for a gene- one obtained from mother and the other one from father-that determines a trait. Composition of genes (alleles) in an individual determines the trait shown by the individual.
