Question
c) At a given temperature and pressure, the volume of a gaseous sample is directly proportional to the moles of the gas (Voulme=C x moles, where C is a constant). Assuming that the temperature and pressure is te same for the reaction of Magnesium with HCl (aq) and Zinc with HCl(aq) and considering the balanced hemical equations for these reactions, answer the following question: what is the relationship between the factor R2 and the following factor, labled R3: R3= Volume of H2(g) produced per mol o zinc that reacts.
Explanation / Answer
Mg + 2HCl ====> MgCl2 + H2
Zn + 2HCl ====> ZnCl2 + H2
1mole of Mg produces 1 mole of H2
and 1mole of Zn produces 1mole of H2
now, volume of 1 mole of H2 = RT/P ; where R =gas constant ; T = temperature and P = pressure
also, the volume of H2 produced in both the reactions will be the same because all the conditions i.e, temperature and pressure for the two reactions are the same.
