Question

Working on an O-Chem Lab involving the Nitration of Halobenzenes. The full procedure can be found at:

My melting range falls under the para "I" melting point

My unknown was then processsed through NMR as shown in the figures below.

Basically the lab is asking me to do a complete anaylsis of the NMR (i.e integration **SHOW WORK**) and figure out what my unknown is, a direct copy and paste of the question/procedure is shown below:

In your experimental spectrum, you will attempt to identify peaks which represent four possible compounds: the ortho-nitro and para-nitro product isomers, the 2,4-dinitrohalobenzene product, and unreacted halobenzene starting material. Of course, you may not have all of these in your spectrum, but you still need to check for each.

In order to compare the integrals to each other to determine compound percentages, the integrals from each molecule must be normalized to represent the same number of H atoms. The integrated peak each represent only one H atom, while the other integrated peak represents two H atoms. In order to compare the integral to the others, that integral value must be divided by two. In general, it is easiest to divide an integral by the number of H atoms it represents before comparing its value with the integrals of the other compounds in the mix. These adjusted integrals are then added together and then divided into each integral to obtain the percents of the mixture. The mathematics of this process is exactly the same as used to determine percentages from a GC chromatogram. Do not let the fact that this is 1H NMR, and not GC, confuse you.
