Rocks are aggregates (combination) of minerals. These rocks can be classified based on their origin into: Igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. These types of rocks are products of the Earth’s dynamic process. Explain the roles of plate tectonics activities that may result in formation and deformation of the earth’s materials and how these activities may result in formation of different rock types. As a geologist, how can you read the past geologic history from these rocks?

Rocks are aggregates (combination) of minerals like olivine, pyroxene etc..

Igneous rocks- These rocks are formed by the lava or magma.

Sedimentary rocks- These are formed by the process take on earth surface like deposition and cementation of material like sand.

Metamorphic rocks- these formed by the deformation of rocks either sedimentary or igneous rocks (protolith) and metamorphism forms new rocks under certain pressure and temperature conditions like marble from limestone

These three types of rocks are products of the Earth’s dynamic process
