In listening to his discussion of some of the same weathering processes we
discussed in class, briefly answer the following questions.
a. Cite at least two ways biology is working to weather the rocks in his
discussions.
b. Bill spent a lot of time discussing weathering actions affecting rocks that
are in direct contact with the atmosphere. We discussed in class how
these same actions can eat away at rock below the surface. Some
geologists believe that the Appalachian Mountains were once the tallest
mountain range in Earth’s history. Considering they stopped rising 300
million years ago and have been mostly exposed to wet climates, discuss
if it is reasonable that they used to be that big.
The answer to these questions is NOT erosion. Erosion is a general term
for weathering processes. Be more specific with your answers.

the organisms present in the earth can make the rocks to weather both physically and chemically. the growing plant roots can exert an enoromous pressure on the surrounding rocks leading to the fractures in the rock . during this process the growing plant roots releases hydrogen ion, this hydrogen ion reacts with the elements present in the surrounding mineral matters and make them decompose.
on the other side some organisms like earthworms and snails can loosen the soil cover and creat suitable conditions for the various external agencies to operate on the underlying rocks.
2) Appalachian mountains are the folded mountains which are formed about 450 million years ago. they are the oldest mountain ranges and they are used to be highest mountain ranges. by the end of mesozoic Appalachian mountains have eroded to flat plains
