In listening to his discussion of some of the same weathering processes we
discussed in class, briefly answer the following questions.
a. What sort of weathering process is causing the water to weather the big
block of mineral salt in his demonstration?
b. Name and describe at least one chemical weathering process and one
physical weathering process shown in this video. Use your class notes
and/or your book to name the process and describe how it works.
The answer to these questions is NOT erosion. Erosion is a general term
for weathering processes. Be more specific with your answers.
Explanation / Answer
a) Chemical weathering is operating on the big block of mineral salt in this vedio, In which the running water disolve the natural salt and it use to carry away the salt from the block of mineral salt.
b) Chemical weathering: In this decay of rock forming minerals caused by water, temperature, oxygen and mild acids i.e. solution, hydration, oxidation, carbonation.
Physical weathering: The processes, such as frost wedging and volume changes of minerals, that result in the mechanical disruption of rocks i.e. granular disintegration, exfoliation, joint block separation, shattering of rock by changes in temperature or pressure.
