Explanation / Answer
Cloud computing is a new mode of computing which is based on Internet-based computing, which shares computers processing resources and data to computers and other devices when required or demand. It can be correctly said that it is a sharing of computing resources i.e. computer networks, servers, storage, applications and services which can be managed with minimum management effort. It also add advantages to store the data at data centers which can be far away from the users in an much secure environment. It’s can be compare to that with a electricity grid which functions in the same way over an electric network.
Advantages :
1) Cost Savings: It’s does not requires to set up any type of server nor it requires to develop any type of Infrastructure so there is lots of saving Peoples or Organization need to pay for what they use. More over their data are being stored in remote and secure location from where they can be retrieve it when required.
2) Reliability: It’s more reliable as an application are available on different servers so if there is any type of server failure then it can be easily transmitted to any other server so that the services are not hampered.
3) Manageability: As the softwares are being run from the server end so the upgrade of hardware is to be maintained by the cloud computing software company, where as users get the same experience as this entire things runs from the web-based browser.
Disadvantages :
1) Downtime: If there is an Internet outage then it’ll not be possible to access to any of the applications nor the files can be access. If there is any type of over lode on server then also there is an equally likelihood of not being able to use this service.
2) Security: Although the cloud computing is consider to be almost secure but it also being lies to be possibility of the data theft by any hacker as there are always some loopholes associated with any cloud solution.
3) Vendor Lock-in: Well it an very interesting to note that as there are server which run on Windows/ Linux /Unix , so there is a most likelihood of not getting the portability of the between the windows and Linux based applications and this becomes very difficult to migrate the data from one platform to another platform. So for large businesses it becomes very difficult to migrate from one platform to another as their data can not be any use on some other platform.
4) Limited control: In this uses are provided with limited control as it’s service are being offered by the cloud based company. Individuals are given right to manage application and manage their data. Administrative task such as updating firmware or managing firmware is totally managed by the company.
