Question
For the simple harmonic motion lab I am supposed to analyze the graph but I'm so lost I can't seem to understand what am I looking at.
How does this graph relate to kinetic energy and elastic potential energy and total energy?
It says to compare your total energy graph prediction to the experimental data for the spring mass system. what do you conclude from the total energy versus time graph (marked with a closed circle) about the total energy of the system? does the total energy remain constant? should the total energy remain constant and why? if it does not what source of extra energy is there or where could the missing energy have gone?

This graph shows that the total energy is the sum of kinetic energy and elastic potential energy at any and every moment.
the total energy remain constant because this spring mass system is left isolated after an initial displacement and therefore no energy is being supplied to or being extracted from the spring mass system.
